Is branding very helpful when dropshipping?

Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where a store doesn't keep the products it sells in stock. Instead, when a store sells a product, it purchases the item from a third party and has it shipped directly to the customer. As a result, the merchant never sees or handles the product.

A dropshipping business can be run from just about anywhere with an internet connection. As long as you can communicate with suppliers and customers easily, you can run and manage your business.

Because you don't have to deal with purchasing inventory or managing a warehouse, your overhead expenses are quite low. In fact, many successful dropshipping businesses are run from a home office with a laptop for less than $100 per month. As you grow, these expenses will likely increase but will still be low compared to those of traditional brick-and-mortar businesses. Branding is really very useful when doing a drop shipping business, People will be used to buy products from brand they know about it ,Because they have recognized the product quality &style ,So that I don't suggest you create your new brand and sale , Actually ,you can choose some product brand and find the brand supplier ,that will be much easier ! Almostly all brand have authorize their products to their big E-Commerce Company agents and to sale except they sale on their own official website.

Brand is essentially a company's identity. Just like no two people are alike, no two businesses are alike, and brands are what make them all different. If you want, you can think of a brand as a company's personality. A brand tells your customers who you are and what you're about. It's the essence of your business – the who, what, and why, so to speak.

Lots of companies treat branding as an afterthought. If you go that route, you'll find it difficult to gain traction and get new customers. Without a brand, your business won't be memorable, and it won't make prospective customers think it's special.

This is the reason why a lot of first time dropshippers give up and quit. They don't spend enough time on branding.

Branding is the thread that runs through your entire business. Everything about your business should be infused with your brand. Your social media, marketing strategies, and even ad copy will all reflect your brand.

Branding is both internal and external. Internal branding deals with your mission statement and company values, while external branding deals with aspects like design and copy.

Also, branding is part of the value you provide to your audience. Whether or not your customers are loyal will largely depend on how much your brand resonates with them. A remarkable brand will attract customers by connecting with them and help turn casual shoppers into loyal followers.

Some ways to choose great drop shipping products.

Choose a product that is starting to go viral - Fidget Spinners was a great one. I happened to have got in on that over a year ago before it was ever on any news outlets. I sold hundreds of thousands of units before most retailers were even stocked. Being able to predict trends is great.

Sell products similar to other top selling products. If you've noticed a certain type of product is constantly featured on big marketplaces, look for items that are extremely identical to it, perhaps cheaper. Then market that item the same way and target the same audience as the other item that is already popular.

Find out what buyers are searching for. There are tons of data sources available that will tell you what consumers are searching for on marketplaces like Amazon, Ebay, Etsy, Aliexpress, etc. You can find products that match the search results buyers type in.

Pay attention to magazines, blogs, news/media sources like Twitter and other social media. There is tons of information out there of up and coming brand products. Then all you have to do is find a similar item that matches, and market that. For consumers who can't afford a brand item at full cost, they'll pay for a similar looking item at a lower price points (just don't sell replicas/knockoffs).

Build a relationship with manufacturers/factories (this is what me and my team do.) But it takes years to build up. When companies around the world submit their designs to various factories in China, HK, India, Taiwan, etc we find out before the items are even produced on what will be coming to market months, sometimes years before a new product release. Our relationships with manufacturers give us a heads-up on which companies are making what products, and what quantity their producing. Then we're in a good position to jump on certain products before any consumer is ever aware it exists.

There are also various software programs and sites (memberships) that you can pay for analytics/data for previous sales on marketplaces. You can find out what marketplaces are selling what products, how often, (sell through rates), and for how much they've been sold for.

Another way is just to throw up 20-25 items on your shop, and put up Facebooks ads for each and see which one has the best results, then focus on the one with the most results.

Key ingredients to the perfect dropshipping products

  1. lightweight - Shipping cost can become a huge factor for heavy products sales, especially if you offer express shipping options. An express courier will charge 70-100 for a 10kg package to be delivered from China to United States. When you sell a product that costs $150, paying an extra $70 on shipping is a conversion killer.
  2. Niche category - One thing you don't want to do is try to compete in a hyper competitive category where your margin is 2% and the prices drop constantly because of price wars between sellers trying to win over customers by reducing the prices to bear minimum. You can find plenty of products to sell in niche categories which will be more profitable and less competitive
  3. Simple to use - this is very important in terms of returns, when a customer receives a product and is not able to figure out how to use it then he is likely to return it and you will have to pay for return shipping cost. These costs can pile up and lower your bottom line profit significantly

How to pick best products to sell for Dropshipping

Tips 1:

Don't be stubborn with your product choices

You can't walk in with the mindset that "I"m only going to sell product x" or you'll probably be disappointed pretty quickly. You'd be surprised how many new sellers have their heart set on selling (what turns out to be) highly competitive products for their first time selling online or products you simply cannot get as an online seller.

Here's how it usually goes down...they have an idea for a product they really want to sell. They don't do any research they just jump right to finding a Dropshipper, contact them, get their wholesale price and then their jaw drops to the floor when they see their wholesale price being higher than other people's retail price they see online. They get upset, confused and then usually give up without ever considering any other products. That's a huge mistake.

It's imperative to understand that with Dropshipping, you get wholesale on 1 item. So in highly competitive markets, where other retailers are buying in volume to get deeper wholesale discounts, it's not uncommon to see a dropshipped wholesale price be MORE EXPENSIVE than the other sellers retail price. For some products you have to buy in bulk quantities to really compete online.

If you plan on using a Dropshipper then you need to be prepared to RESEARCH A VARIETY OF PRODUCTS. In fact some of the best products will be ones that you may have never considered selling before. Most new sellers tend to look only at products 'they like' or products they see advertised on TV and as a result, all they see are dropship wholesale costs that offer no profit margins because those types of products are competitive products with volume buyers and sellers.

If you're a Member of Worldwide Brands you really have an advantage here that most other sellers don't have. Worldwide Brands has got one of the biggest Dropship Directories we've ever seen with more dropship product choices than any other Directory so use that to your advantage. Start to include some products in your research that aren't products you thought about selling when you started. Be open to selling products you may not know much about yet. By breaking away from 'common mainstream products' you'll start seeing products you can dropship that have wholesale prices you can profit from.

Tips 2:

Look for products with "Lower Demand"

Sounds odd but it's true. "Lower demand" products work better with Drop shipping because lower demand products typically have less competition from those big retailers.

You might be thinking...but doesn't a low demand mean I won't get many customers? Not at all. The online world is big. I mean REAL BIG. So what's considered "low demand" online can still mean hundreds or even thousands of customers a month. To a big retailer, only getting a few hundred customers a month isn't enough to sustain their company, employees and other business expenses. However, to a small home-based online seller with little overhead, hundreds of customers a month add up really fast.

So when you're doing your demand research, don't be so quick to dismiss a product that you may think has 'low demand'. It may just be a product worth researching further.

Tips 3:

Focus your research on "Niche Markets"

When you start researching niche products you'll start seeing what you've been hoping to see. You'll start finding products with better profit margins, you'll start seeing your dropship wholesale prices LESS than other retailers prices in that space, you'll see cheaper advertising costs and the list goes on. So why isn't everyone selling niche products? Simple. Most people don't know how to do product research. They just know how to look for products they know, have used or see commercials on TV. When those products turn out to be too competitive for Drop shipping, they don't know what to do next and like I said before, they just give up hope.

There are millions of products and tens of thousands of product niches you can research. There are so many untapped niche product markets waiting to be sold by online sellers. We often have people ask us "have all of the good products been taken?" The answer is NO. When you avoid common, mainstream product markets, you start to see an entirely new landscape of opportunity for online sellers. So when you hear people say "dropshipping doesn't work" it almost always means they tried to sell a product they didn't actually research first. Dropshipping does still work but you need to spend more time researching.
